Historic Style

Tapping into his love of historic architecture, Ben Page, president and architect for Nashville, TN-based Ben Page & Associates, knew he wanted to do a lot with a little. Therefore, Page called on Ridley Wills, president of the Wills Co., Inc. also based in Nashville, TN, to serve as contractor for his personal powder room project. The work earned Wills and his firm national first-place honors in the Residential Bath $15,000 to $30,000 category.

“This powder room was part of a bigger project,” Wills notes, alluding to Page’s need to turn the powder room and vestibule areas around so guests could easily, and privately, enter the space from the hall. Wills notes that a highlight of the space is the handkerchief ceiling, which features two vaults that come into each other and are pulled down. Choosing to use the slate flooring previously featured in the space, Wills reports, “We took that and made a round circle that mimicked the vault above. We took a slab of slate and cut it to make it appear like it was cut into different patterns.”

Adding to the classic feel, the pair used a watering hole as the sink and mounted it with a marble surround. Says Wills, “We have it inset into the surround. We put marble sides and backs to it, which hide the steel supports that hold it to the wall.” Completing the design, Wills adds, is tiny lighting that runs up and down the featured butterfly print pictures.
